What is carbonitriding?

Carbonitriding is a thermochemical process that improves surface properties by diffusing carbon and nitrogen into the surface of parts. It can be carried out in continuous furnaces.

Carbonitriding consists of three steps. First, parts are heated in a carbon-rich atmosphere at 750 to 900 °C. During the second stage, quenching, the parts are held at the target temperature for a defined time and then cooled in oil to form martensite. The third stage, tempering, aims to reduce internal stresses in the material.

Carbonitriding is used for low-carbon steel parts that require a hard, wear-resistant surface layer. It is commonly selected for fasteners, automotive parts and components used in other industries.

At Termosan Isıl İşlem Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., we provide high-quality heat treatment solutions. Specialised processes such as carbonitriding improve the durability of your parts.

Carbonitriding is a heat treatment method used to improve the surface properties and wear resistance of metal parts. Carbon and nitrogen diffuse into the surface, increasing surface hardness and improving wear and fatigue resistance.
