What is quenching and tempering?
Quenching and tempering is a heat treatment used to increase the surface and core hardness of steel. It generally involves hardening followed by tempering and improves mechanical properties, hardness, wear resistance, tensile strength and fatigue life.
Quenching rapidly cools the product using oil, gas or another quenching medium. Tempering is then used to achieve the required mechanical properties, such as hardness and toughness. It also helps reduce internal stresses, transform retained austenite and stabilise martensite.

Quenching and tempering in controlled-atmosphere furnaces protects part surfaces against oxidation, recarburisation and decarburisation. By controlling the carbon potential of the atmosphere, these furnaces can counteract decarburisation and recarburisation.
At Termosan A.Ş., our experienced team and advanced equipment provide quenching and tempering services.
